This is an introductory course which introduces students to the Design Principles and the Elements of Art. Art History woven in to each project and includes:

Drawing: value, perspective, line quality

Color: color theory, making a color wheel, projects include colored pencil drawing and acrylic painting

Ceramics: how to create relief and additive elements to a tile

Digital Photography: Introduction to the digital camera and how to use manual setting to create a light 'story'

Social Change Sculpture: using found objects to create a sculpture with a social message
Project themes range from personal/identity to native species to culture and social issues. All project require, research, planning and a reflection and presentation at the end of each project. Students are introduced to the critique process very gently with the 'Two Grows and a Glow' process for two of their projects toward the end of the course.
